Our Core Beliefs
God, author of all life and
creator of the universe and all within, exists from all eternity in three
distinct personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is the Unique Son of
God. He was born of a virgin, lived a perfect sinless life, and died on the
cross as a sacrifice for human sin. He arose from the dead, returned to
heaven, and will return to receive those who obey him. The Holy Spirit is God and equal
with the Father and the Son. The Spirit works in the life of the Christian
rendering aid through comfort, empowerment, and guidance while producing the
fruit of transformation.
Men and women were created in the image of God. All people have sinned by
disobeying God and have become separated from God. Unless saved through Jesus
people will be eternally separated from God in everlasting punishment. Salvation is a process
beginning with the work of the Spirit on the heart to produce repentance. It
involves acknowledging Jesus as Lord by immersion in water for the forgiveness
of sins and reception of the gift of the Holy Spirit. It culminates in the
transformation of our being through the work of God and is completed at the
end of our earthly life. Salvation is by grace through living (obedient) faith
and not by good works of human effort. People are saved to perform works, but
people do not work in order to be saved. The
church is the body of Christ composed of the totality of saved people
throughout history. There should be no division within the earthly body of
Christ. Along
with the work of the Holy Spirit, God has provided the Bible, the message of
God to instruct the world about Himself and how people are to live before Him.
The Bible is verbally inspired and infallible. Christians
are to live holy lives exalting God above all else. The Bible contains the
unchanging pattern for holiness to be exhibited in Christian living. Christian
living involves loving God with all our hearts, mind, souls, and strength and
loving our neighbors as ourselves.
